If you haven't received an enrolment update pack by now, you are not enrolled to vote in November's general election and referendum on the voting system. Enrolment update packs were sent this week to the three million New Zealanders who are enrolled to vote. Everyone who is correctly enrolled should have received an update pack in the mail by now,'' said Murray Wicks, national manager of the electoral enrol- ment centre. Many people did not receive their packs because they had moved house and not updated their enrolment details, he said. We do get situations where people have changed where they live but not given us their new address. If their pack gets returned to us then we have to remove these people off the electoral roll.'' The enrolment centre, and its registrars of electors around the country, are making a plea to those who have not received enrolment update packs to get on the roll. Enrolling to vote doesn't happen automatically once you turn 18 or become eligible, you do need to fill in an enrolment form,'' Mr Wicks said. Now is the time to check whether you're enrolled and your details are correct -- it only takes a few minutes to check. Do it now and make it easier to vote on election day.'' You can update your details online at elections.org.nz. Forms are available by freetexting your name and address to 3676, calling 0800 ENROL NOW (0800 36 76 56) or through any PostShop. Logie in ninth place on list The Green Party candidate for Mana, Jan Logie, has been confirmed at ninth spot in the party's list rankings. The ranking is one place down from her provisional eighth spot announced in April, but still gives her a strong chance to clinch a seat in November's general elections. The provisional list was subject to a final vote that saw Ms Logie, of Paekakariki, switch places with cur- rent MP from Auckland, David Clen- don, initially ranked at nine. The Greens currently have nine MPs. Ms Logie first stood for Mana in November's by-election, where she ran third behind Labour's Kris Faafoi and second-placed Hekia Parata. She will run again for the elector- ate in November's general election. Park protections Wellington City Council has strengthened protection of the city's parks and reserves, including forest remnants in Tawa. Major sections of the hills that make up the Outer Green Belt, behind Tawa, Broadmeadows, Khandallah, Ngaio, Karori, Brooklyn and Owhiro Bay have been given reserve protection under the Reserves Act, that until now had been presumed. The move comes after a project to tidy up the classifi- cation of a number of parks and reserves. Some notable protections include forest remnants in Tawa, especially the Wilf Mexted, Redwood Bush and Woodburn reserves, as well as sportsgrounds in the suburb. Over the past few years, WCC has agreed to classify or reclassify more than half the city's parks and reserves, or about 2000 hectares, to give them greater protection under the Reserves Act. The council's natural environment portfolio leader, councillor Helene Ritchie, said the changes represented a major advance in protecting Wellington's green image. I'm delighted that we have given extra protection to these important areas, which not only adds to our reserves network but further bolsters Wellington's green image. I also hope to extend these protections even more in the coming months with a special emphasis in the northern growth management plan.''
