The workshop is part of the Pacific Science Project, a Ministry of Health initiative that Whitireia staff are involved in. This project is about raising the awareness of careers in health and science to Pacific secondary school students. It is aimed at Pacific parents of students about to select their NCEA subjects. More Pacific health professionals, engineers, architects, scientists, educators and researchers were needed, said a Whitireia press release. The workshop would share information and raise awareness of the health and science careers. Local people including Whitireia staff and career services will be on- hand to assist and discuss the sci- ence curriculum taught in secondary schools and to talk about NCEA. The workshop is on tomorrow, 5.30pm, at Te Akapuanga Hall, Warspite Ave. Teddy Bob helps Ronald Bearable: While mum shopped, Oliver Winter cuddled up to Porirua's biggest bear, Teddy Bob, at Porirua New World. By NICOLE BAXTER A giant teddy bear has teamed up with Porirua New World to raise funds for the Ronald McDonald House rebuild in Newtown. Teddy Bob , who belongs to the Ronald McDonald House and survived the demolition, has since been in the care of Shirley Love and her husband. It was a good opportunity to raise money -- and it s a good cause, said Mrs Love, a New World staff member. For the past two weeks Teddy Bob has been sitting by the exit of New World Porirua, collecting spare change from shoppers. In the first week, $260 was raised. Mrs Love said Thorndon New World would probably use Bob next so it too could raise money. Teddy Bob is available to bor- row for any business who would like to raise funds for Ronald McDonald House.
