Flossing?: Hunter Thomson, from Whitby, tucks into the always-popular candy floss. Three legs: Sally and Thomas Gates, who made the trip to the fair from Karori, show their prowess in the three-legged race. Born to fly: Connor Alderdice-Sole, from Whitby, can't get enough of the merry-go-round. Leading the pack: Cohen Bryers-Sherwin, from Whitby, leads the way from Gema Aitken, from Pukerua Bay, in the sack race. Thousands of people enjoyed the tasty treats and rustic pleasures of Battle Hill at Saturday s Eat, Drink & Be Crafty fair. Around 4000 people descended on the park for a day of children s games, artisan food and high-end crafts. The turnout was about equal to last year s inaugural fair, but parking ran much more smoothly and more refreshments were on offer, organiser Melanie Maddock said. The weather also came to the party. It was beautiful, we were really lucky. My biggest moment was looking around and seeing all the families picnicking on the grass. That was a real pleasure. Although the exact amount fundraised for Life Flight Trust has not been counted, it would be at least double last year s $4000, Mrs Maddock said.
