Northern United Carrus Corporation Ltd Rugby Club welcomes the 2012 rugby season. The coaches and managers have been undertaking their planning and pre-season training has commenced every Tuesday and Thursday evening since January 17. Next month trials against Kia Toa, Wests, Ories, Upper Hutt and MSP will be played. The season kicks off Saturday, April 7, against Upper Hutt for the Terry Farrow Trophy at home, followed by an away trip to play our old foes Poneke for the Collett Shield. The club is looking to build on the success of the recent Rugby World Cup and seek all interested people who have something to offer the game. Age grade players can play Colts or under-19s. Women's rugby is on the rise so to all those women it's your chance to shine. Also, junior rugby registrations are now being taken. There is good heart at Norths and the club is looking to build on the connections it's been making within the community. 2012 sees Carrus Corporation Ltd sponsorship enter its second season. Norths welcomes sponsorship from other local people and is keen to increase its profile within the community. Contact the president Ron Wood for further details. RUGBY Paremata Plimmerton The Paremata Plimmerton Rugby Football Club was formed by the amalgamation of the Paremata and Plimmerton clubs in 1959. The home grounds are at Ngatitoa Domain, off State Highway 1, in Paremata, and consist of three playing fields, floodlit training areas and the clubrooms. The club has a long and proud history, and celebrated its 50th jubilee in 2009. Over its 53 years, the club has had teams playing across all levels in the Wellington competition and has earned a reputation for producing players of high calibre. Training normally consists of Tuesday and Thursday nights, with pre-season fitness training at the club from February. The reserves and presidents' teams train on Wednesdays at 6.30pm. The club's junior section is always popular and will field about 400 young players, four to 13 years old, this year. FLAG Porirua Tag Football, or flag'' as it's affection- ately known in Porirua is gearing up for an exciting year. The season may have just finished, but for many the excitement is just starting to grow. So what's all the noise about? It's because 2012 is World Cup year. The Tag Football World Cup will be held in Auckland during December and you can expect to see a large number of our local players competing against the world's best as part of the New Zealand Barbarian Teams. The NZ Barbarians mixed team are the world champions in their grade and, with a core of talented locals, are expected to put on a strong performance to retain their title. Other grades hopeful of securing a world champ title are the men's under- 18s, under-20s, open and over-30s, and women's under-18s, open and over-30s.
