Another big crowd is likely to pack into the Redden Fight Club for the next Muay Thai event, showcasing the best kickboxers from Wellington and New Zealand. Honour II is the name of the event taking place on August 11. Hosted by Alpha Muay Thai Kickbox- ing Club, promoter Kevin Dick says there will be 12 fights on the card. Their last fight night, in March, saw people turned away from the door. It was crazy, a sellout. We had 500 people, the biggest crowd we've ever had here. There was no trouble, there were families and kids along -- we do things properly.'' Every fighter has a following, they all have supporters in the crowd, so it makes for a fantastic atmosphere. This sort of event is getting big again. It's like what we used to have a few years ago on TV [like UFC] making it popular.'' The night in March raised money for new gear, which will be used by the likes of Porirua kickboxer Ra Redden. He will be fighting for the New Zea- land WMC title against Aucklander Sam Hill, with Dick saying the bout is bound to be a cracker. Ra's on a roll, but this will be a step up for him. This is the title he wants.'' Ra's brother Henare will also be in the ring, as will up-and-comer Michael Rad- ford. Doors open at 6pm. For tickets and information on corporate tables, contact Kevin Dick on 027 265 6434. Court focus results in high ranking Making a racket: Kobe Fleming's recent results show why he is one of the best junior players in New Zealand. By KRIS DANDO Kobe Fleming is an all-round athlete but this year his focus has been firmly between the four walls of a squash court. The Whitby 10-year-old, in just his third year of playing the game, is likely to be ranked inside the top three in the country for his age when updated rank- ings come out next month, after winning the North Island Cham- pionships and finishing runner-up at the South Island equivalent. In both events he came up against rival Glenn Templeton, from Katikati. I lost 3-0 down there [in Timaru] but the games were all really close,'' Fleming says. In Hamilton I think I warmed up better and I had a new game plan and it worked. I was really happy.'' Part of his successful run is due to coach Nick Mita, who is working with a number of juniors at the Tawa and Mana squash clubs, with Fleming a member of the latter. While he enjoys rugby and football, all other sports have been set aside. Squash is my focus. You get really fit, make lots of new friends and I have lots of fun.'' A member of the Wellington development squad, Mana's junior academy and the national under-13 development squad, Fleming is training towards the nationals in Palmerston North in October.
