It has been named a finalist in two categories of the Fairfax Media Sustainable 60 Awards; Community, and Overall Medium Business. These awards recognise the work organisations do to protect the environment, leaving a reduced carbon footprint. There were 55 entries from around the country, with 15 making the finals list. The award ceremony is in Auckland on November 28. NCEA workshop for migrants Settlement Support Porirua and the Ministry of Education are running a free workshop, for migrant parents, on the National Certificate of Educational Achievement (NCEA). The one-hour workshop will run from 5.30pm till 7pm on Wednesday, October 3, at the Hosanna Church, 2 Driver Crescent, Cannons Creek. The session is aimed at parents of secondary school children, but parents from the wider community are also welcome. The workshop will cover NCEA information in detail. To register, call Settlement Support co-ordinator Annette Woods on 237 3578 or email email@example.com. Volunteers needed The only free ambulance service in the country needs help. Wellington Free Ambulance answers 111 calls in Wellington, Kapiti and the Wairarapa for no charge. To stay free, it relies on the public to fund a $4 million shortfall in government funding, says fundraising manager David Baker. The service needs local people to volunteer a few hours to collect funds. The appeal will be held mostly on Friday, September 14, but some collections will be held on the Saturday and Sunday.
