7 KAPI-MANA NEWS, NOVEMBER 13, 2012 4923042AA Proudly Sponsored by Buy these products and help us support Our sponsor provides a 5 cent donation per item purchased. PORIRUA Ricki Herbert - Patron & Garrod Brader - General Manager/Operator General Manager Garrod Brader and Herbert were on hand to create awareness of the scheme which sees Cadbury and Pak 'n Save donate 5c of every Cadbury product sold -- which includes chocolate, Pascalls, Natural Sweet Company or Oreo -- to Plunket. This is the first year of the scheme and Garrod says that they are hoping to donate more than $10,000. He says Plunket is an organisation he was glad to help and sees it as part of Pak 'n Save's role in this community. The store contributes to the local economy by being the best priced supermarket option and employing Porirua people. Tina Syme of Plunket says that "Plunket was delighted that Porirua Pak n Save choose Plunket as their chosen beneficiary of their patron scheme. It is only through partnering together both within our Plunket family and externally with local business, community groups and organisations that we can achieve Plunkets vision of the "best start for every child" Herbert, meanwhile, hopes his profile can similarly aid a worthy cause and would love the public to support it. ''Plunket is the one organisation that has or will affect us all. In fact now during these difficult times when many of our citizens are struggling or have the family network and support systems in place, Plunket is becoming more important.'' Kapi-Mana News didn't ask Ricky if he was a Plunket baby but there is a good chance that he was, with the organisation woven into our national fabric. Herbert also sees his patron role as an opportunity to push football, which has been steadily rising in popularity since the All Whites' unbeaten run at the 2010 World Cup. It is the most popular sport for young sports people in the country. He says to grow the game there needs to be investment in local communities. People who spoke to him at Pak 'n Save last week know plenty about the game. ''I faced a few questions about the Phoenix and the All Whites, let's just say that. One lady told me 'you need to tell those [Phoenix] boys to follow up their shots on goal', so I said I'd make sure and tell them.'' Ricki Herbert got a few curly questions from punters about the Wellington Phoenix and All Whites while on promotional duties for Cadbury and Plunket at Porirua Pak 'n Save last week.
