Photo: SUPPLIED Top team includes talent from Tawa The Wellington under 15 girls cric- ket side dominated the national tournament held in Whanganui. During pool play Wellington eas- ily accounted for Canterbury and Central Districts, before seeing off Northern Districts in their semi- final. The final against Auckland was a one-sided affair. After winning the toss and choos- ing to bat, Wellington made 138/4 with rain reducing it to just 20 overs an innings. A brilliant early run out in the Auckland chase was effected by 11-year-old Kate Fenton, the youn- gest player at the tournament. Regular wickets and excellent bowling and fielding from Welling- ton saw Auckland struggle to 77/6 in their allotted overs. A feature of the Wellington side was having nine players from Tawa in its 14-strong squad. Many had previously tasted suc- cess at Tawa Intermediate a few years ago at the national schools' level and will be playing for Wel- lington for some time. Star of the under 15 nationals was Emma Fulbrook, who led the runs scored and wicket-taking charts. Coach Robbie Kerr said she has a big future in the game. The Tawa players were Jess Kerr, Makaylah Mason-Jones, Phoenix Williams, Roshani Thura- isingham, Danielle Watson, Olivia Macrae, Katie Blair (all Tawa Col- lege) and Amelia Fenton and Kate Fenton (Tawa Intermediate).
