McCrudden was also second in the under-23 class, one min- ute 12 seconds behind Josh Par- kin of Hamilton. Dirk Peters, of Rotorua, won the elite men's race and Olym- pian Karen Hanlen, of Whaka- tane, overcame a horror first lap to win the women's race by more than three minutes. First Wellington woman home was Samara Sheppard, of Chur- ton Park, in third place, and fastest man was Tom Bradshaw, who was seventh. Co-organiser Mark Renall said the event went brilliantly in hot, sunny conditions. The riders loved the course. Photo: JIM CHIPP Storm the field with the Vikings The Porirua Vikings are inviting anybody interested in rugby league to a Big Day Out family fun day this Sunday. The rugby league club will be signing up players aged 5 to 17 on the day, as well as offering a free sausage sizzle, a bouncy castle, games for kids and lots of giveaways. Senior and premier players will be on hand to help out and give youngsters playing tips. Last year the club attracted 1500 people to its Big Day Out, says Vikings operations man- ager Joanne Rameka.
