Photos: KRIS DANDO and ANDREA O'NEIL Too quick: Sekove Delaicautata is on the move in the fast-paced game of Ki o Rahi. Yummy: Nirvana Letele takes a liking to one of the popular Creekfest food choices, watermelon and yogurt. Take the pain: Makalio Vole-Harrison from Natone Park School has to push through the pain barrier to finish the Creekfest youth fitness challenge. The rain stayed away and thou- sands enjoyed the fun, food and festivities in Cannons Creek and Plimmerton on Saturday. At Creekfest, the innovative health messages, sports, food and musical acts impressed Health Minister Tony Ryall, who stayed for more than three hours after opening the event. Organiser Liz Kelly said the success of Creekfest, which was nearly cancelled, was down to community involvement and an army of volunteers. We were really pleased with the numbers, the amount of stalls were up and we're covering all six fields on the park now. It's not just about the Creek, this is a city- wide event and people really pul- led together to make it happen.'' Meanwhile, hundreds flocked to St Theresa's School's Kiwiana gala, where Fred Dagg-lookalike parents and staff supervised games like gumboot ring-toss, jandal racing in the school's pool and real-life Angry Birds, where a kiwi soft toy was catapulted at menacing rat targets.
