Photo supplied. A new website to promote the Porirua community was laun- ched last week. e-Learning Porirua unveiled the OurPorirua.com website at the Shine edu- cation forum on Friday. The new site automatically captures content from other websites participating within a growing online community, project director and e-Learning Porirua board member Wendy Betteridge says. Those websites can also selectively share content with each other, creating a unique network where people and organisations can exchange news, information, stories and ideas, she says. It's exciting for organis- ations, businesses and com- munity minded people.'' The new online community represents a major shift away from the previous OurPorirua.com website, which had been run by a dis- continued trust. The new website will connect up much of the community over time but it already has a handful of people and organisations contributing interesting news and information, Ms Betteridge says. The first areas of focus for the online community are in health, education and busi- ness, but this will expand to include arts and culture, sport, clubs, faith and religion. Causes such as housing, employment, environment, accessibility and older citizens could also be added over time. An exciting aspect of the OurPorirua online com- munity is the opportunity to tap into the villages' pro- gramme, a Porirua City Council initiative. In fact the council have been instrumen- tal in helping e-Learning set up the new online community and we're indebted to them.'' OurPorirua.com acts as a hub to capture content from any number of websites par- ticipating from a platform called Flightdec.com, which was built by website develop- ment company Fresco. Fresco's Fraser Carson says, Websites should be able to network and exchange. Facebook and Twitter are wonderful, but people spend money on web- sites without realising their potential to publish content and be much more dynamic as a result. We're hoping in Porirua we can set an exam- ple to the world.'' e-Learning trust chairman Graham Kelly says they are looking forward to their involvement in OurPorirua. com. Route 235 service not axed A story about changes to bus services (KMN, May 27) contained incorrect information. The current route 235 from Navigation Drive in Whitby to Pare- mata Station is not being axed altogether. From September, peak hour services between north-eastern Whitby, Paremata and Porirua will be provided by a merger of the current routes 235 and 236 from Navigation Drive to Porirua. We apologise for the error.
