By NATASHA THYNE The Tawa Fire Service have some shiny new equipment, thanks to funding from com- munity groups. Assistance from the Rotary and Lions means the service now has a dedicated vehicle for their newly-established operational support team. The four-member team, made up of volunteers, have over 100 years experience in the firefighting service. The new vehicle will allow the team to attend more call- outs and its branding can promote the service properly, chief fire officer Mr Farrand said. The team specialise in non-firefighting related tasks such as traffic management, lighting and helping residents, in particular the elderly, with their smoke alarms. Mr Farrand said that Tawa Fire Service is a busy service, and its operational support team will make about 40 house calls every year. There are 26 other members in the brigade. Third baby first born By NATASHA THYNE First baby: Annabell Malaulau with her new baby boy and her 6-year-old son, Lawrence. Warm welcome Annabell Malaulau is celebrating the birth of her third child, and being the first to give birth at Kenepuru Hospital during Parent Centre Week. Ms Malaulau, from Cannons Creek, gave birth to her baby boy last Monday at 9.54pm and received a gift basket from the Mana Parents Centre a few days later. At the time of the paper going to press Ms Malaulau had not decided on a name for her new son. Mana Parents Centre provides child- birth education and parent education classes for families living between Tawa and Pukerua Bay. All Mana Parents Centre services are run by parent volunteers who want to give something back to their local area.
